Cytotoxicity
Toxicity leading to loss of cell membrane integrity results in the leakage of cytosolic components such as lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Comparing relative quantities released with the total amount present will provide the extent of tissue/cell damage relative to the negative control. Other leakage markers available include adenylate kinase and alkaline phosphatase.
